One of the world's leading management consultancy firms, The Boston Consultancy Group, has announced the appointment of Richard Lesser as president and chief executive officer.

Mr Lesser was elected to take over the roles in May 2012, the New Yorker will lead the company into its 50th year of operation. He has already outlined his vision for the firm's progress, saying: "Serving many of our clients globally has been critical to our success, and we see great opportunity to deepen those relationships - and forge new ones - across both developed and developing markets."

He added that BCG would continue to work with local communities and leading global organisations to address social issues such as health, education, food security, as well as sustainability.

Hans-Paul Bürkner, who Mr Lesser will succeed in both roles; will now take up the position of chairman. The nine years in which Mr Bürkner was in  the two roles saw a highly successful period of growth for the firm, with revenue nearly tripling.

Meanwhile, the firm has also released its list of the top 50 most innovative companies, with the top ten being dominated by technology and communications companies. Apple and Google finished number one and two respectively.
