Booz Allen joins up ocean clean-up

Consultancy firm Booz Allen has made a major commitment to the environment in the US by helping out with an ocean clean-up.

The company announced that 430 of its employees, as well as family and friends, joined up with the Ocean Conservancy for International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) to improve the country's beaches.

Volunteers teamed up with the not-for-profit organisation on Saturday (September 15th) to clean up 24 different locations across the US.

The move comes after the ICC carried out a similar activity in 2011, where volunteers collected nine million tonnes of litter and rubbish from the coastline, these included bottles, cigarettes and plastic bags among others.

The ICC is determined to reduce the amount of marine wildlife that is injured or killed as a result of discarded litter that is left either on the shore or thrown into the ocean, and this campaign is designed to go someway to improve the health of animals around the region.
