PA Consulting Group has announced that it is to appoint Marcus Agius as non-executive chairman.

Mr Agius will take up his new role from January 1st 2014, and his arrival comes on the back of the news that Jon Moynihan, currently Executive Chairman of PA, is to retire at the end of the year.

The board has already begun implementing a number of changes with a view to revamping its membership, with other long-serving members having also expressed a wish to retire.

Mr Agius takes up his new role having already worked in a number of top jobs, including a six-year stint as the chairman of Barclays bank.

Commenting on his appointment, Marcus Agius said: “I am delighted to be joining PA and salute Jon Moynihan for the role he has played in building it into such an outstanding business. PA has a distinguished history: it also has a great future in prospect given the wealth of talent in its executive ranks. I much look forward to working with my new colleagues to develop PA’s forward trajectory.”

Jon Moynihan, retiring Chairman, commented: “The refreshing of PA’s Board starts our company on a new epoch in its on-going story. Our CEO, Alan Middleton, has shown the way forward over the past six years; we anticipate the new team writing another great chapter in the company’s history.

He went on to thank all of the company's retiring board members for seeing the firm through a period of both success and consolidation of its position as a leader in management, science, innovation and technology consulting.

PA's chief executive officer, Ian Middleton, also offered his thanks to Mr Moynihan  for "his drive, leadership and determination over the last two decades".

Mr Middleton added that the outgoing chairman had managed to transform the firm and help it to secure an "enviable reputation across government and business worldwide."
