Deloitte wins award for Return to Work programme

Deloitte's efforts to help mothers return to work after having children have resulted in the professional services firm receiving an accolade.

The company picked up the first Returnship Award at the 2017 Mumsnet Family Friendly Awards event, which was hosted by London mayor Sadiq Khan this week.

A new addition to the range of honours handed out this year, the Returnship Award recognises companies that have introduced special measures to support new parents in their return to work.

All firms shortlisted for the prize were required to have operated a formal, paid returnship programme in the past two years.

Deloitte launched its Return to Work scheme in 2014, at which time it was an industry first, according to the firm. So far, it has helped 39 women return to work and relaunch their careers after starting a family.

Emma Codd, managing partner for talent at Deloitte, said these women strengthen the organisation with "not only their skills from their previous roles, but also those that they have built during their time out of the workplace".

She added: "We are incredibly proud of our programme and its participants and look forward to seeing them go from strength to strength."

Justine Roberts, founder and CEO of Mumsnet, said 2017 has been "the year of the returnship". She welcomed the fact that many employers have been "embracing the idea with real enthusiasm".

The Family Friendly programme was launched in 2011 with the aim of celebrating employers that have taken action to support people in their workforce who have families.

It has recognised companies that have shown leadership in areas such as workplace flexibility and parental leave policies.

The 2017 Mumsnet Employer of the Year Award went to Unilever, while Matalan received the Family Friendly Innovation Award.
