IBM helps Suffolk Life to reduce energy...

Major computing company IBM has been working with one of the UK's leading pension firms to reduce its energy levels.

The organisation provided its Smarter Computing approach to Suffolk Life's IT operation and within the first four weeks of its integration in April, the company has managed to reduce its energy consumption by 37 per cent.

It also allowed the firm to make savings of around £30,000 a year through more efficient solutions provided by IBM.

The computing company's systems enabled Suffolk Life to reduce its number of physical servers from 66 to just six across its two sites as well as integrating nine IBM hosts. It meant that the company was able to cut its consumption as well as improving its carbon footprint.

Ian Long, head of information technology for Suffolk Life, said: "This project has been a resounding success for Suffolk Life. IBM delivered an updated infrastructure ahead of schedule that enabled us to significantly reduce our power consumption and associated running costs."
