Microsoft extends lifespan support for Windows...

by Oskar Marks

Microsoft has announced that it will be extending the lifespan for the consumer versions of Window 7 and Vista.

The global computing giant will allow users to operate the products for a while longer and will offer support for the next five years. Consumers currently using Window 7 will have until 2020 to take advantage of the service with Vista customers having until 2017.

It was originally planned to end the scheme in 2015 and 2012 respectively but bosses at Microsoft believe that extending the service will help revamp the support policies for its operating system.

A spokeswoman for the company said: "This update formalises that all editions of our operating systems will receive security updates as long as they are using the most current [service pack]."

Microsoft recently updated its Windows logo for the eighth edition of the software moving it from the famous multi-coloured image into a four-panelled, aqua, "Metro style design" which has been described as "complete reimagination".
