Microsoft probes suspected problems of Xbox 360

by Jamie Anderson

Computing giant Microsoft is looking into suspected security problems with its Xbox 360 console.

It is believed that the popular games console permanently stores a user's credit card details on its hard drive which leaves it potentially vulnerable to cyber attacks. Joystiq recently reported that the problem was discovered by researchers at Drexel and Dakota state universities in the US.

As part of a project, the team managed to garner a number of credit card details from refurbished Xbox consoles and now Microsoft is exploring the problem and told Joystiq that it would conduct a "thorough investigation".

Ashley Podhradsky, researcher, told gaming website Kotaku: "Microsoft does a great job of protecting its proprietary information, but it does not do a great job of protecting the user's data."

It comes after the company recently announced it would be moving its European distribution centre from Germany to the Netherlands to safeguard assets should it lose its patent court case against Motorola Mobility.
