Xbox 360 launches BBC iPlayer service

by Adel Asim

Microsoft and BBC have announced that the on-demand video service, iPlayer, will be launched on the Xbox 360 console.

Users will be able to access the channel on the console's free Xbox LIVE platform as part of their subscription and it means that the iPlayer is now available on all home gaming consoles, after previously launching on the Nintendo Wii and Playstation 3.

However, the difference with the Xbox version is that users will be able to facilitate the Kinect, a device which allows gameplay without using a controller, to choose programmes through voice recognition or by hand gestures.

With many companies, such as Samsung, introducing "Smart TVs", Microsoft and the BBC believe that this is the next step in entertainment systems.

Daniel Danker, BBC's programmes and on-demand manager, said: "We believe it's early days for these experiences [voice recognition and Kinect technology], but see a great future working with partners such as Microsoft on innovations like these."
