Atos wins contract with ASOIF to develop the first common sport data...

International IT services and consulting firm Atos has announced that it has signed a contract with the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF).

The firm's role will involve developing a common data platform for the organisation's members, such as the International Federations (IFs), to collect results and the biographical data in one place and format.

The system will eventually be used to provide data to the organisers of major events including the Olympic Games, with the aim of improving the level of information services available to the media.

It is the first such development in the sports sector and is being hailed as a major strategic win for Atos.

The first phase of the International Sports Information System (ISIS) project will see the IFs, alongside ASOIF, take ownership and control of the collection, verification, distribution and exploitation of their sports data.

This will be used to form the foundation of ISIS and help each IF to improve its own data information systems and to become more compatible with a common data exchange protocol.

Each IF will be responsible for developing its own IT systems where necessary in order to achieve compatibility with ISIS,  aided by the support knowledge and expertise of the ISIS project team.

Yan Noblot, chief operating officer at Major Events Unit, Atos said: "We are very proud to be at the forefront of this strategic step forward in the sports industry. Not only will all athlete data be secure and correctly centralised conforming to one standard, it will also be much more efficient and effective to export the data to major events such as the Olympic Games and other sports client groups."

Andrew Ryan, executive director at ASOIF, said: "We are delighted to work with Atos on ISIS as they have built a very strong reputation in the sports sector, in particular in their role as the key integrator during the Olympic Games."

It added that ISIS will allow it to simultaneously improve the quality and increase the quantity of data from all of the 28 summer sports.
