Mercer in deal for Global Remuneration Solutions

Consulting firm Mercer has announced that it has struck a deal to acquire Global Remuneration Solutions (GRS), a leading compensation and benefits survey data and rewards information provider based in South Africa.

GRS carries out compensation and benefits surveys in a total of 36 countries across Africa and also provides a wide range of rewards and mobility products.

It also offers consulting to many local and international organisations operating across the continent.

The deal increases Mercer's presence in Africa and builds on the strategic alliance it has had with GRS since 1999.

It is the latest installment of an already well-established partnership between the two companies. GRS and Mercer set up the Africa and Middle East Compensation & Benefits Forum in 2007, which is now held every year and was initiated on the back of the requirements of rapid emerging markets that were growing in the region.

Many of the companies involved in these growing markets were in need of high quality market data, as well as a solid platform for exchanging and developing human resources and compensation practices.

Gaurav D. Garg, Mercer’s regional president, Growth Markets, said: "Africa is an important and expanding market for Mercer and the acquisition of GRS is tangible evidence of our commitment to invest in the continent.

"Specifically, within the continent, South Africa is a key market growth area for Mercer. Not only does GRS have a significant market presence in South Africa’s large and growing economy, but also it is a market leader across the broader African continent where our global clients have been expanding operations and demand reliable data.

He added that the excellent reputation enjoyed by GRS as one of the leaders within the industry, combined with its knowledge of Africa would complement the company's expertise in pensions, health and benefits, as well as investment and talent consulting.

Anne-Margriet Schoeman, Executive Director of GRS, said: "During a working relationship that has extended for years, we have been impressed by Mercer’s professionalism and dedication to clients."
