Digital and cloud revenues drive 'excellent' 2017 for...

Capgemini has released its full-year financial results for 2017, noting that strong revenues from its cloud and digital businesses fuelled "excellent" performance for the year.

Total revenue was just under €12.8 billion (£11.3 billion), which marked a year-on-year increase of two per cent, or four per cent on a constant-currency basis.

Digital and cloud income continued to rise at a rapid rate, going up by 24 per cent at constant exchange rates to €4.9 billion. These streams represented 38 per cent of total 2017 revenues, or 40 per cent in the fourth quarter of the financial year.

Other key figures showed that operating profit totalled €1.18 billion, up from €1.15 billion in 2016.

The company said its profitability continued to improve, reflecting its ability to pursue industrialisation while "rapidly expanding" its innovation businesses.

Discussing the latest results, Paul Hermelin, chairman and chief executive officer of Capgemini, said the group's 2017 success was driven by its delivery of value to clients and the manner in which it captured demand fuelled by digital transformation agendas.

He continued: "We won significant contracts to help our customers, as global strategic partners, attain their objectives in terms of both productivity - leveraging our automation technologies - and innovation. We enriched our offerings in these areas with several bolt-on acquisitions, particularly in e-commerce and digital design, including the acquisition of the digital customer engagement firm LiquidHub, announced last week."

LiquidHub is a digital customer engagement business based in Philadelphia with estimated 2017 revenues of approximately €200 million.

Mr Hermelin said qualities such as the firm's "robust" digital expertise and its track record in executing complex technologies made it a "natural fit" with the end-to-end digital services Capgemini offers to enterprises around the world.
