Background

Our client is the UK’s largest listed restaurant operator. They own and operate over 600 sites across casual dining, pub and travel concession locations. They recently  completed the acquisition of one of the UK’s top performing restaurant businesses to accelerate their growth through the roll out of new restaurants, growth of home delivery and expansion within international markets. They anticipate generating major deal related synergies through the selected conversion of existing restaurants as well as significant cost savings through leveraging the newly enlarged scale and removing unnecessary duplication across the two businesses.

Role Brief:

We are assembling a team of post merger integration specialists to oversee the delivery of deal related synergies. This team will have the opportunity to work across a broad range of functions on a critical project for the group. The roles will have significant exposure to C-suite and Board level executives and will work directly with the Corporate Development Director.

Responsibilities:

- Identify cost saving opportunities across purchasing (e.g. food, beverage costs), sites overheads (e.g. utilities, rent & rates) and central costs (e.g. insurance, audit fees)

- Ensure appropriate negotiation strategies are designed and implemented to extract savings from external partners

- Work with procurement teams to set targets and incentives to deliver these cost savings

- Work with HR teams to review and evaluate team structures, identifying resource mismatches and potential efficiency gains

- Ensure an appropriate plan of attack is in place to deliver synergies through the prioritisation of the opportunity set

- Ensure our work has no impact on our the restaurant customer proposition by prioritising “back-end” savings

- Act as non-partisan negotiators in finding sensible compromises between viewpoints when conflict arises

- Track, measure and present back progress to the CEO, CFO and Board

- Coordinate weekly working group and monthly steering group sessions

 

Requirements: 

- Strategy or Operational Improvement Consulting or banking experience

- Highly numerate and very comfortable in Excel and Powerpoint

- Strong presentation and communication skills

- High energy, level headed, not afraid of challenging convention

- Prior experience in retail or restaurant industries or M&A integration useful
